Howe remained coy about a deal being completed when quizzed on the matter after the full-time whistle of Wednesday's EFL Cup win over Tranmere Rovers. On Friday morning, however, it was a different matter as Howe acknowledged that Newcastle were on the brink of finalizing a transfer. The Toon Army has now formally announced that Isak has arrived at St James' Park on a long-term contract.
Isak signed from Real Sociedad for a reported £58 million fee rising up to £63m including add-ons. The 6'4" striker has signed a long-term deal with the Magpies, understood to be six years, and has been given the number 14 shirt. Isak is Newcastle's fourth signing this summer after Matt Targett, Nick Pope, and Sven Botman.
