Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Allan Saint-Maximin is on the verge of departing the club amid growing interest from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. The 26-year-old forward recently rejoined his Magpies teammates after the summer break and played a significant role in their 3-2 pre-season victory against Gateshead last weekend.

However, in a recent friendly against Rangers at Ibrox, Saint-Maximin was notably absent from the Newcastle squad, as he was granted permission not to travel to Glasgow. Reports have emerged suggesting that Al-Ahli is actively pursuing the Frenchman and is presently engaged in negotiations to secure his move to the Middle East.

While Eddie Howe expressed his desire to retain Saint-Maximin, he has recognized the need for Newcastle to offload players to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. In response to queries about Saint-Maximin's situation following the win over Rangers, Howe addressed reporters, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano:

"Saint-Maximin? Talks are on.
"With FFP we have to trade, otherwise, we would be stuck this summer – I don't want to lose him.

"FFP forces it, to a degree. It looks like it will happen. Sometimes these things have to happen for a club to grow".
