Born in Croatia but raised in Serbia, Peja Stojaković rose to prominence with Crvena Zvezda and later PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece. His smooth shooting stroke made him one of the most feared scorers in Europe before he ever set foot in the NBA.
Drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 1996, Stojaković became the centerpiece of the early 2000s Kings, one of the most exciting teams in NBA history. He was a three-time NBA All-Star, the 2002 NBA Three-Point Contest Champion, and later, an NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.
At his peak, Stojaković averaged over 24 points per game in the 2003–04 season while shooting nearly 44 percent from three. Few could match his combination of size at 6’9” and his deadly range.
Peja is remembered as one of the purest shooters in NBA history and as a pioneer who showed how a EuroLeague star could become a bona fide NBA superstar.
