Manchester United remains confident they will secure a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo before their pre-season tour in the United States.

So far, United’s attempts to sign the Cameroon international have hit a snag, with two bids reportedly rejected by Brentford. The club’s second offer was reportedly over £62 million, but Brentford were unhappy with the payment structure and want more of the fee paid upfront.

While other Premier League clubs like Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Mbeumo this summer, the player has made it clear that he only wants to join Manchester United, the 20-time English champions.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club is not worried about the delay and expects the deal to be completed by early next week. This would allow Mbeumo to join the squad for their upcoming pre-season tour.

Manchester United will kick off their preparations for the 2025-26 season with a friendly against Leeds United on Saturday. After that, they’ll travel to the U.S. for the Premier League Summer Series, playing West Ham United in New Jersey on July 26, Bournemouth in Chicago on July 30, and Everton in Atlanta on August 3.

They’ll return to Old Trafford for their final pre-season match against Fiorentina on August 9.

If the Mbeumo deal isn’t finalized before the team flies out on Tuesday, there’s still a chance the 25-year-old could join the squad later during the tour and take part in some of the games.

The delay mainly comes down to money. Manchester United don’t want to pay beyond what they consider fair for a player whose contract runs out next summer. Their initial offer was around £55 million, and the second, including add-ons, reached about £62.5 million. However, the two clubs are still far apart financially.

The saga is expected to wrap up soon, and United will be signing a forward who scored 20 Premier League goals during a standout 2024-25 season.
