Manchester United will look to edge closer to securing a top-four finish when they host Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night in the Premier League.

The Red Devils currently sit third in the table and hold a comfortable eight-point cushion over sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, with a game still in hand. Brentford, meanwhile, are ninth, but remain within touching distance of European qualification, sitting just a few points behind the top seven.

Manchester United’s recent form suggests they are peaking at the right time. A hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Chelsea last time out — secured by a first-half strike from Matheus Cunha — marked their eighth win in 12 matches under head coach Michael Carrick. With crucial fixtures against Liverpool and others still to come, United know consistency is key if they are to lock in Champions League football.

Despite their strong position, recent history offers a note of caution: United have lost their last two meetings with Brentford, although they did claim a narrow win in this fixture last season. Another victory here would further strengthen Carrick’s case for a permanent role, while any slip could add pressure ahead of a massive clash with Liverpool next weekend.

Brentford, on the other hand, have quietly built an impressive campaign. Though they have drawn their last five league matches, they remain firmly in the hunt for European football. Under Keith Andrews, the Bees have exceeded expectations and could yet finish the season on a historic note.

Their away form has been mixed — six wins, two draws, and eight defeats — but they have shown resilience. With upcoming matches against Manchester City and Liverpool, Brentford could play a decisive role in the title and top-four race. A win at Old Trafford would also mark their first-ever away victory against Manchester United in the Premier League.

Manchester United could welcome back Leny Yoro after a minor injury kept him out last time. However, Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined, while Lisandro Martinez is still suspended. Harry Maguire returns from his ban and is expected to slot straight into defence.

There could also be a tweak in attack, with Amad Diallo pushing for a starting role ahead of Benjamin Sesko.

Brentford, meanwhile, are dealing with a lengthy injury list, including Fabio Carvalho and Rico Henry. However, they will still rely heavily on Igor Thiago, who has enjoyed a prolific season with 21 league goals.
