The Boston crowd got to witness something truly special on Monday Night Raw as John Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship for the very first time in his legendary career. The win was even more meaningful because it came during what was billed as Cena’s final appearance in his hometown. For the 17-time World Champion, it was a full-circle moment.

The night kicked off with Cena sharing the ring with Triple H, reflecting on his career, until Dominik Mysterio interrupted. Full of arrogance, Dominik claimed he was “better than you in your prime,” prompting Triple H to set up an impromptu Intercontinental Title match right then and there between the young champion and one of WWE’s all-time greats.

Dominik did everything he could to hang on to his title, resorting to every underhanded trick in the book. At one point, he grabbed a steel chair and tried to fake a disqualification by slamming it against the mat and pretending Cena had hit him, only for Cena to outsmart him by dropping to the mat, leaving the referee completely confused.

Later, chaos erupted when Dominik accidentally kicked the referee after being lifted for an Attitude Adjustment, leaving the official knocked out.

Cena had Dominik trapped in the STF, forcing him to tap out, but with the referee down, the match continued. Dominik tried to turn the tide by swinging his title belt at Cena, but he missed and got nailed with an AA. A second referee sprinted to the ring, but Dominik kicked out at two.

Desperate, Dominik connected with a 619 and followed up with a frog splash, but Cena rolled through, picked him up, and delivered one final, thunderous Attitude Adjustment to seal the victory and finally claim the one championship that had eluded him throughout his career.

With that win, John Cena becomes a Grand Slam Champion, completing his collection of WWE gold. The emotional triumph marked another unforgettable moment in his “Last Time Is Now” farewell tour, which will wrap up at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
