CJ Perry recently appeared on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast and shared a surprising story from the time Donald Trump was president. She revealed that Trump once pulled her and Miro aside and encouraged them to steer their WWE characters away from political themes, something she still remembers as a major behind-the-scenes moment during an important stage of their careers.

Perry recalled the exchange clearly. According to her, once Trump was in office, he told them directly that their act shouldn’t involve politics anymore.

“He sat me and Miro down,” she said. “He’s like, ‘Okay, no more politics. It’s too polarizing and controversial.’”

Looking back, Perry sees the comment as a reaction to how strongly their characters had leaned into political angles at the time, especially during Rusev’s arc as an anti-American villain.

At the time, Perry and Miro were performing as Lana and Rusev, characters heavily tied to international tensions and bold political imagery. Their storyline even included nods to Vladimir Putin and played off real-world geopolitical narratives. Perry said Trump’s message made it clear that once he became president, those kinds of storylines were better left in the past, likely out of concern for how divisive political plots could be in mainstream entertainment.

The conversation eventually shifted to the present day. Perry confirmed that she is currently signed to a Legends deal with WWE, which she says has given her stability while she juggles several new projects.

She also addressed talk of “Rusev’s big WWE return,” noting that momentum around Miro’s comeback has been growing since he left AEW. Perry went on to discuss her new podcast, Identity Crisis, saying it has given her space to share personal stories and reflect on how she and Miro have grown stronger in their marriage over the years.
