Hey everyone,
I came across something pretty troubling recently and thought I’d bring it up here. As many of you probably know, Rangers FC was fined €30,000 by UEFA after some fans displayed a racist banner during their Europa League match against Fenerbahce. On top of that, they’ve also been given a suspended stadium closure.
It’s disappointing, right? I mean, football is supposed to be about bringing people together, not dividing them. But what I found interesting was UEFA's response — they didn’t just fine the club, they also warned that if anything like this happens again, parts of the stadium could be closed during games.
It got me thinking about the bigger picture. We’ve seen racism pop up in football over the years, from players being abused on social media to incidents like this in stadiums. But UEFA’s quick action is a step in the right direction. It shows that they’re serious about tackling this issue.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think fines and stadium closures are enough? What else can be done to truly stamp out racism in football? Let’s discuss.
