Chelsea was keen to bring Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge last summer, but Leipzig refused their offers and instead signed the defender to a new contract until 2027. However, it is reported that Man City and Real Madrid are now vying for his signature, with both clubs looking to strengthen their defense. Although Leipzig does not expect Gvardiol to force a move away, they are preparing for numerous bids for the talented centre-back.
It is said that Gvardiol's current contract has a £97m release clause, which cannot be activated until 2024, but Leipzig is willing to part with him for £75m this summer. Liverpool is also reportedly interested in the player, but the cost of the deal would make it difficult for them to sign him if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
However, the economic challenges could affect the pursuit of both Man City and Real Madrid, who might struggle to afford a double swoop for Gvardiol and Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham in one transfer window.
