The Cameroon international was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 matches for the Bees. His impressive form attracted serious interest from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle but from the start, Mbeumo made it clear he only wanted Manchester United.
United had two bids rejected earlier this summer, the first believed to be around £55 million, followed by a second offer of £62 million including add-ons. Brentford held firm, demanding £65 million up front and a total package close to £70 million.
On Thursday, United returned with a third bid, which has now been accepted. According to journalist David Ornstein, United will pay an initial £65 million, with £6 million in performance-related bonuses, to be paid in four instalments. Personal terms have already been agreed with Mbeumo, who is expected to sign a long-term contract running until June 2030, with an option for an extra year.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the deal on X, noting that Mbeumo will be United’s second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Although the deal won’t be finalised in time for Mbeumo to feature in Saturday’s pre-season clash with Leeds in Sweden, he’s expected to join the squad on their U.S. tour next week. If all goes according to plan, his debut could come against West Ham on July 26 in New Jersey.
Mbeumo’s first competitive appearance for United might come in a blockbuster Premier League opener against Arsenal.
