With just 80 minutes on the clock and Ireland leading 22-20, it seemed like they were on the verge of claiming the 2024 crown. But then came Marcus Smith's incredible drop goal, propelling Steve Borthwick's team to an incredibly dramatic triumph.
In addition to securing victory, Smith's heroics also dashed Ireland's hopes of achieving back-to-back Grand Slams and saw England clinch the Millennium Trophy for the first time since 2020.
The match saw plenty of action, with Ollie Lawrence scoring England's opening try. However, thanks to Jack Crowley's four penalties, Farrell's team went into halftime with a narrow lead. In the second half, James Lowe scored twice for Ireland, but England stayed in the game with tries from George Furbank and Ben Earl.
As the clock ticked down, England managed to secure a penalty and, in a tense finale, worked the ball from right to left. The stadium erupted in cheers as Smith kicked the winning points from close range, sending the crowd into a frenzy of excitement.
Although Ireland still holds a four-point lead over England, they'll need to beat Scotland in the next round to retain their title. Meanwhile, England's chances of claiming the crown remain alive, pending the outcome of Ireland's match against France.
