Former UFC Fighter Godofredo Pepey Found Dead in Florida Jail Cell

UFC veteran Godofredo Pepey was found dead Saturday night in a jail cell in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While local authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death, Pepey’s friend and fellow fighter Rony Jason shared on social media that he had taken his own life. The news was first reported by journalist Leo Guimaraes.

Pepey, 38, had been arrested in June on four separate charges: kidnapping with intent to cause harm or terror, domestic battery by strangulation, tampering with communications, and battery/domestic violence. He had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office released a statement to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin addressing Pepey’s death, though details surrounding the circumstances remain limited.
