Ukraine secured their spot in Euro 2024 with a thrilling comeback victory over Iceland, sealing their qualification after a tense playoff match at Stadion Miejski Wroclaw in Poland on Tuesday night.

The match started with Albert Gudmundsson putting Iceland ahead with a brilliant goal in the first half. But Ukraine fought back valiantly after the break, with Viktor Tsyhankov leveling the score in the 54th minute. Then, in a dramatic turn of events, Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

This victory means Ukraine will participate in their fourth consecutive European Championship. They will be in Group E alongside Belgium, Slovakia, and Romania, with their opening match against Romania scheduled for June 17.

Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd of over 30,000, Ukraine made an energetic start but struggled to create clear chances early on. Iceland relied on counter-attacks, coming close to scoring themselves, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin kept Ukraine level with some impressive saves.

Despite Iceland's early lead, Ukraine remained resilient. They responded strongly in the second half, with Tsyhankov's goal reigniting their hopes. Both teams made tactical changes, but it was Ukraine who looked more likely to score in the closing stages.

Mudryk's late goal sealed the victory for Ukraine, leaving Iceland unable to mount a comeback. Ukraine's qualification marks their 14th win in their last 20 Euro qualifiers, and they finally succeeded in winning a playoff match after previous disappointments in 2000 and 2016, securing their spot in this summer's tournament in Germany.
