Eight days after a breathtaking first leg in the French capital, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain meet again at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, with a place in the UEFA Champions League final hanging in the balance.

The opening clash at the Parc des Princes will go down as one of the most chaotic semi-final matches in the competition’s history. PSG edged a remarkable 5-4 victory, but the scoreline only tells part of the story. The momentum swung wildly throughout, as both sides abandoned defensive caution in favour of relentless attacking football.

PSG’s electric front three—Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia—were devastating for much of the first leg, combining for a flurry of goals and assists that left Bayern reeling. At one stage, the Parisians surged into a 5-2 lead, seemingly putting the tie beyond reach.

However, Harry Kane and company refused to fold. Bayern mounted a furious late comeback, scoring twice in quick succession to cut the deficit to 5-4, keeping the tie very much alive ahead of the return leg in Germany.

For Vincent Kompany, who watched the first leg from the stands due to suspension, the defensive collapse would have been deeply concerning. Bayern conceding five goals in a Champions League knockout match is a rarity, and history is not particularly encouraging—having progressed just once from 10 previous European semi-finals after losing the first leg.

Domestic form has also been inconsistent. A dramatic 3-3 draw with Heidenheim over the weekend extended Bayern’s winless run, although their attacking output remains staggering. Their last three matches alone have produced 22 goals, underlining both their firepower and defensive vulnerability.

PSG, meanwhile, arrive in Munich with confidence. Under Luis Enrique, they have developed into a ruthless, well-balanced side. Despite a 2-2 domestic draw with Lorient, their away form has been exceptional, with six consecutive wins on the road and a string of clean sheets.

Historically, PSG are strong when leading after the first leg, progressing in the vast majority of such ties. Still, the challenge of facing Bayern at the Allianz Arena is significant. The German giants have won five of their last six home meetings against PSG, scoring freely in the process.

Adding another layer of intrigue, both teams are closing in on a long-standing scoring record set by FC Barcelona in the 1999-00 season. PSG have netted 43 goals in this Champions League campaign, while Bayern are just behind on 42—putting the record of 45 within reach.

Team News

Bayern head into the second leg with a near full-strength squad. Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala are all expected to return to the starting lineup after being rested at the weekend. Kane, chasing a seventh consecutive Champions League scoring appearance, will lead the line once again.

The only confirmed absentee for Bayern is Serge Gnabry, while several previously injured players have recovered in time to bolster the squad.

PSG, on the other hand, have been dealt a blow with the injury to Achraf Hakimi, who is sidelined with a hamstring issue. His absence could force a defensive reshuffle, with Warren Zaire-Emery likely to fill in.

Midfield stability should come from the trio of Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz, while Kvaratskhelia continues to chase a personal milestone—needing just one more goal to surpass Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s club record for most goals in a single Champions League campaign.

Possible Starting Lineups

Bayern Munich:
Neuer; Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Davies; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Musiala, Diaz; Kane

Paris Saint-Germain:
Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Prediction

Bayern Munich 4-2 PSG
