Arsenal return to the Emirates under mounting pressure on Saturday evening as they host Newcastle United in a pivotal Premier League clash that could reshape the title race at the top.

The Gunners, currently second, have a golden opportunity to reclaim top spot—at least temporarily—but arrive on the back of a worrying dip in form. Newcastle, meanwhile, are battling at the opposite end of the table, desperate to steady a campaign that has spiraled in recent weeks.

Mikel Arteta’s side have hit a rough patch at the worst possible time. A narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City last time out extended Arsenal’s losing run domestically and intensified scrutiny around their ability to sustain a title push.

Despite flashes of quality at the Etihad, Arsenal have now suffered a string of setbacks that threaten to derail what once looked like a strong title bid. Fatigue could also be a factor, with a looming Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid adding further strain to an already stretched squad.

Historically, however, this fixture heavily favors the North London side. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 13 home league games against Newcastle and will be confident of asserting control, especially given the visitors’ current struggles.

For Eddie Howe and Newcastle, the situation is far more concerning. Once seen as a rising force following their takeover, the Magpies now find themselves drifting dangerously close to the relegation conversation.

A 2-1 loss to Bournemouth last weekend compounded their issues, marking a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions. Defensive frailties have been particularly damaging, with Newcastle recording one of the worst loss rates in the league since late January.

While survival is still within reach, the margin for error is shrinking, and a trip to the Emirates offers little comfort given their dismal away record in this fixture.

Team News

Arsenal’s injury concerns persist. Bukayo Saka remains a major doubt due to a calf problem, while Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber are also racing to be fit.

Captain Martin Odegaard has returned from injury and is expected to play a key role, while the midfield trio of Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze could once again provide balance and creativity.

Newcastle’s problems are arguably even more severe. Tino Livramento is ruled out with a groin injury, while Anthony Gordon is also expected to miss out.

Defensive absences include Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth, while Joelinton serves a suspension. The return of Bruno Guimaraes is a positive, though, and he will be central to any hopes of an upset.

Possible Lineups

Arsenal:
Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Madueke, Havertz, Eze

Newcastle United:
Ramsdale; Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Miley; Murphy, Osula, Barnes

Prediction

Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle
