Arsenal seems poised to make a move for Manchester City's Joao Cancelo this summer if Barcelona can't secure him permanently. Cancelo, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, joined Barcelona on a temporary deal for the 2023-24 season and has become a key player under head coach Xavi.

With 32 appearances for Barca in La Liga and the Champions League, Cancelo has contributed four goals and four assists while playing both as a right-back and left-back. Despite being under contract with Man City until June 2027, Cancelo appears set to leave the Etihad Stadium due to his falling out of favor with Pep Guardiola.

Recently, Cancelo criticized Man City, accusing them of being "ungrateful" and alleging that Guardiola lied about his attitude. Man City is reportedly open to selling Cancelo this summer, and the player himself has expressed a desire to join Barcelona permanently. However, Barcelona is hesitant to meet Man City's £40m asking price due to financial constraints, preferring a loan deal instead.

If Barcelona can't secure Cancelo, Arsenal is ready to swoop in. Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, has prior experience coaching Cancelo during his time as an assistant under Guardiola at Man City. Arsenal has a history of signing players from Manchester City, having acquired Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko in 2022 for over £70m combined.

Cancelo's versatility and experience at the top level make him an appealing target for Arteta. Since joining Manchester City in 2019, Cancelo has made 154 appearances, contributing nine goals and 22 assists, and winning three Premier League titles and one EFL Cup.
