Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has been suspended for one match and fined €25,000 by the German Football Federation (DFB) for unsporting behavior.
The punishment follows an incident during last Saturday's DFL Super Cup match against VFB Stuttgart. After the final whistle, Boniface made an obscene gesture, showing his left middle finger to the Stuttgart players as he passed them.
Although the referee didn’t catch the incident at the time, the DFB’s disciplinary committee reviewed the footage and decided to take action.
Both Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen have accepted the ruling, making it official and binding. The DFB announced in a press release that Boniface would miss one DFB Cup match and be required to pay the fine.
This means Boniface will be absent from an upcoming German Cup game.
