Liverpool are reportedly pushing to secure a new contract with Ibrahima Konate before the summer transfer window closes. Last season, the club had to deal with uncertainty around the futures of key players like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

While Van Dijk and Salah eventually signed new deals, Alexander-Arnold chose not to renew and made a high-profile move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool don’t want a repeat of that situation, and that’s why they’re hoping to settle Konate’s future soon. As things stand, the French defender is under contract until the end of the 2025–26 season, but he would be free to leave after that if no new deal is agreed.

According to Football Insider, the club has set the end of this transfer window as the cutoff point for talks. They plan to step up negotiations with Konate’s representatives over the next few weeks.

If it becomes clear that no agreement can be reached, Liverpool could consider offers for the 26-year-old. With just two years left on his contract, this summer might be their last real chance to command a strong transfer fee.

There’s already reported interest. Real Madrid have been linked with Konate as they eye a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold move, and Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be tracking him. Saudi club Al-Hilal has been mentioned as well.

Liverpool are eager to keep Konate, who played a key role alongside Van Dijk last season. He started 30 of his 31 league appearances, helping the team secure their 20th league title.
