A high-stakes Premier League clash is on the cards at the Vitality Stadium on Friday night, as Bournemouth host Manchester United in matchday 31. Both sides arrive with plenty to play for—Bournemouth chasing a potential European spot, while United are pushing to secure a top-four finish.

Bournemouth’s season has been a tale of three phases—an electric start, a sharp dip in form during the winter months, and now an impressive resurgence. Andoni Iraola’s side are currently enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run in the league, although consistency has been undermined by their tendency to draw matches. Four consecutive stalemates highlight a recurring issue: converting strong performances into maximum points.

Despite that, the Cherries sit 10th and remain within touching distance of the European places. With eighth position potentially offering continental qualification, a win here could temporarily lift them into that spot, depending on other results.

Encouragingly for the hosts, they have fared well in recent meetings with Manchester United. Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last five competitive clashes against the Red Devils, including a thrilling 4-4 draw earlier this season.

Manchester United, meanwhile, appear revitalized under interim boss Michael Carrick. Since taking over in mid-January, Carrick has overseen a remarkable turnaround, with United collecting 22 points from a possible 27. Victories over top sides such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa underline their resurgence.

Now third in the table with 54 points, United are firmly in control of their Champions League destiny. A win here would further strengthen their grip, potentially opening a six-point cushion over the chasing pack.

However, away form remains a slight concern. United have been significantly stronger at home this season, and their only defeat under Carrick came on the road against Newcastle United.

Team News

Bournemouth will be without several key players due to injury, including Justin Kluivert, Lewis Cook, Tyler Adams and Julio Soler. However, there is a potential boost with David Brooks pushing for a return to the starting lineup after recent appearances off the bench.

Marcus Tavernier could take on a more central attacking role, supporting a forward line likely to include Rayan and Evanilson.

Manchester United also have defensive absentees, with Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu all sidelined until at least April.

Captain Bruno Fernandes continues to be the creative heartbeat of the team. With 16 assists already this season, he is closing in on the Premier League record and will once again be central to United’s attacking play. He is expected to operate behind a fluid front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, while Benjamin Sesko offers an option from the bench.

Possible Lineups

Bournemouth:
Petrovic; Smith, Hill, Senesi, Truffert; Scott, Christie; Brooks, Tavernier, Rayan; Evanilson

Manchester United:
Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Diallo, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo

Expert Prediction

Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United
